Most hotels do not allow topless sunbathing at the pools.
Many women who sunbathe topless are discreet, they put their tops on when walking around the beach. Some will go into the water topless. It's not common to see a topless woman just walking down the beach or playing volleyball.
If this is something you find offensive, this area may not be the right vacation spot for you.
People from all over the world come to the Riviera Maya to vacation and going topless is very common in some cultures.
I get questions from concerned parents on how this will affect their kids. I explained to my kids the same thing I said above, "in different cultures this is acceptable", and then we don't make a big issue out of it. Also,it's not usually that big of a deal to kids unless the parent makes it one.
There will also be men and women in thong bottoms as well.
These are not clothing optional resorts, just resorts that do not allow children.
