We’ve been hearing good things about this truck near East High School football field, located at E. 15th & University, Des Moines, IA
Taco Loco here we come!

Taco Loco, one of the fanciest and most “commercial” taco trucks we’ve come across.

They are in a parking lot right next to a daycare.

It’s not fancy but it’s in the shade, and right by the swings.
Luckily the kids were loading up on the bus to go to the pool the day we were there.

Finally….the food!
We ordered the five taco plate for $8.75 and shared two choriza, two al pastor, and one steak. Out of all five tacos, surprisingly the steak had the best flavor (usually we prefer the spicier al pastor or chorizo tacos, but these just didn’t quite satisfy our taste buds).
We also ordered a plate of rice and beans for $1.25. These aren’t on the menu, and they were definitely not something we’d order again.
We thought it was rather odd that the menu only offered a platter with five tacos, but found out that you can order individual tacos for $1.75 each (about .25 more than most other taco trucks). Seems like a marketing ploy to get you to order more…it worked on us! Hey, now that we think of it, the platter price of $8.75 is exactly the same as if you bought the tacos individually (aren’t platters supposed to be a bit of a bargain?)
I’m not sure why, but we tend to prefer the more rustic taco trucks, as opposed to this “Fancy-Dancy” variety. Perhaps if the kids had been swinging and kicking dirt onto our food it would have felt a little more authentic Mexico : )
Marina, the lady who waited on us was the high-point of our visit—very nice.
Taco Loco gets a three tacos guys rating.
