Today I continued work on Tulum hotels and restaurants. Tulum is planned to be a large map (24″ x 36″), but as I worked on it, things weren’t fitting the way I’d like. About noon I realized that perhaps this needed to be a smaller map with downtown Tulum on one side, the beachfront on the other, and Tulum ruins on a separate section.
That seems simple enough, but all of the artwork has to be rescaled to the new format and this this changes the size of all the text arrows. Each one has to be rescaled and repositioned so the arrow points to the correct place and everything lines up nicely. It’s a tedious job but we’ve become fast at it, changing the 214 arrows only took about 2 hours.
Things were looking great all afternoon as I worked on this new smaller format. Except, now things seem too tight. I had to cut some of the fun comments about restaurants, I took out quite a few photographs, and things still seem tight.
It’s 5:30pm, and I have to get away from the computer for a while; perhaps I’ll think more clearly after a walk on this beautiful evening. When I return, I’m going back to the original version and take a second look at it (our computers automatically save each version so we can easily go backward). I want to get this Tulum map figured out so I can sleep better tonight.
