We recently received our new Cancun map. Thank you…. it’s actually a map/travel guide/tips guide. We are travelling to Cancun on Dec. 28. Some friends were recently at the Cataolina in Akumal area and loved it. If we want to do a one day trip to Akumal and see the town area and get on the beach, it there a “best” way to get there and spend some time there? Escorted taxi guide or collectivo or Cancun bus? We will be staying at the Cancun Palace. Thank you for the excellent maps and incredible website.

Hi Mel,
I recommend you take the bus from the downtown Cancun bus station, it’s #G7 on your downtown Cancun map.
The bus goes to Playa del Carmen approx every 15 minutes and cost 35 pesos per person. From Playa take either a colectivo or a taxi to Akumal.
This will be approx. a 2 hour trip from your hotel.
You can also hire a taxi driver to take you to Akumal, but it would be quite expensive. I estimate $150 – $200 u.s. You might also consider renting a car for the day.
